The Person of The Holy Spirit

1. 1 John 14:16 – 17 As Jesus was with us in person, he recognizes that we would continue to have his presence. Therefore he promised another person he calls the Comforter who will live with us.

He describes him as the SPIRIT OF TRUTH who the world cannot receive because the world cannot see him. This is an indication that he expects us to be able to see him.

He says the world does not know him, but we know him because he lives with us, and he shall live in us.

This means Jesus is introducing to us a personality he calls the Comforter, who he believes we know and therefore should be familiar with.

2. John 16:7 – 15 The Holy Spirit or the Comforter was going to be sent by Jesus to represent him and his interests among his believers.

He is his Ambassador and must therefore be a person to be able to represent the interests of Jesus.

RESPONSIBILITIES 1. He will reprove the world of sin, because they do not believe in Jesus. This means his believers will do things that would challenge the perceptions of the world about Jesus.

2. He will prove to believers that Jesus is indeed in heaven with the father.

3. He will judge the prince of this world by making him fail in his quest to deride the name of Jesus.

The Holy Spirit has pride therefore we don’t have to get on his bad side (Matthew 12:31-32)

We should not grieve him because he is a person who has moods. (Ephesians 4:30)
